Homeschool Mothers Journal

In my life this week…

  • I put up my second post about "No Excuses" and I was shocked to discover that I walked 10 miles this week.

In our homeschool this week…

  • Elisha created a menu in French and he has been working through a book about the Gold Rush.
  • Moses and I had a break through with spelling. We worked on spelling orally and had a fun discussion about words. He sat with a notepad and we spelled out words and he wrote them down.
  • Malachi and I practiced sight words using a space game and we also worked more on sounding out short cvc words. He is making amazing progress. Something definitely clicked last week.

I am inspired by…

  • I have been really inspired by Pinterest. Have I told you that already? (I know I have, but for someone visual like me, I have fallen in love).

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

  • We had lots of things planned for this week, but I had to cancel them all because all the little people got sick. It was a weird kind of flu that affected each child differently.

My favorite thing this week was…

  • The twins were very sick and Zion had a high fever. He was nursing (and sleeping) and Hosanna asked if she could kiss him. I said, "Yes". She kissed him on the forehead. Then she said, "Zion is my best friend." I thought that was so precious.

Things I’m working on…

  • I am working on making some creative things for my kitchen. I can't wait to show you everything.

I’m cooking…

  • Chinese food for dinner. Chow Mein, fried rice (not fried), and spicy pork with carrots and green peppers.

  • Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Theodore Roosevelt

In my life this week…

I actually picked up my crochet hook and started a blue scrap quilt baby blanket (and it's almost finished).

In our homeschool this week…

We are plugging along and make slow and steady progress in our daily work. Next year will be way more exciting… I promise.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We had dinner twice this week with my parents. We are really enjoying our Thursday visits with Jenn. This Friday we have OT and Teacher visits. Saturday my sister and her family are coming over.

My favorite thing this week was…

Having my inspiration renewed by a couple of different people who blessed us this week.

What’s working/not working for us…

Our current reading program is not working for Malachi (7). He has been struggling with learning how to read and we need to do some extra work over the summer. My life would be so much easier if he could read instructions for himself.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

I am curious what materials you are purchasing for your homeschool next year.

Zion sleeping on the couch.

Zion crashed out on the couch for his afternoon nap.

In my life this week…

My life this week has been busy and loud. It was also full of firsts for me – new art techniques with my acrylic painting, graphic design, and illustrating. I am really proud of myself that I faced some fears and was able to try some new things.

In our homeschool this week…

We were on our second week of spring break, but I still made the kids start our “A Trip Across Canada Study” and watch some art lesson DVD’s with me. I will be writing reviews of them shortly and I am really excited!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

This coming week we need to go for some nature walks and get outside in the garden.

My favorite thing this week was…

Seeing Elisha’s face when we pulled off the surprise party! Ha, gotcha.

What’s working/not working for us…

Jonah and I need more help from the big kids to clean up after themselves. They make big messes and think we have a cleaning lady (we don’t!).

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

Preschool is upon us. The twins turn 3 in May. I need to plan our preschool for next year. Ideas… throw them at me please.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

My husband and I have been working on an animation and we have a teaser to share.

I am linking up to The Homeschool Mother’s Journal. Consider visiting and reading what everyone else is doing in their homeschool.

Don’t forget to leave all your preschool ideas below for me.
