Living Math

I have always had an unschooling (learning through living) kind of streak in me. I have to keep restraining it to get school done. hehehe.  I have been to the Living Math page before and been quite intrigued. A comment was left on my website from Four Little Penguins with a link to THIS PAGE. I read her post and went to visit the original post on Jimmie’s Collage called, “Set the Manipulatives Free.” They were both very interesting reads and resonated with my inner longings to follow the natural learning and curiosity of  my kids. I am not sure …

Spelling City

I am so excited that I actually took the time to try out Spelling City. I love it. It is simple and easy to use. It took me no time at all to enter in the spelling lists from Sonlight Language Arts 2 Intermediate for Elisha. I had him test drive it. I am pretty sure most of the spelling words are too easy for him, but we’ll see. I had been meaning to write a blog post about it last week, but never got around to it. This morning I pulled it up to show it to Moses. He …

Timez Attack

Timez Attack came recommended by another homeschool mama that uses it for her child. I downloaded it and tried it myself before showing it to the kids. It took me a little while to figure it out, but the boys took to it right away – even the 6 year old. The boys have been almost begging to play it. They are learning their multiplication facts and having tons of fun.

Christmas Truck Light Parade

One of our traditions every year is to attend the Christmas Truck Light Parade. We have been doing this for the last 5 years (at least). It is a 15-20 minute long parade of trucks covered in lights. The trucks are so beautiful. My only complaint is that the trucks move too fast, but this year it was so cold and stormy (really windy) that I was glad it was short. Does your family have any special Christmas traditions?  I would love to hear about them.

Sensory Art Collage

Today we worked on sensory art collages to give to Nana who is in the hospital. Nana is blind and we wanted to do something special for her. It took a bit of time to think of something that she might enjoy. We decided to make collages with a variety of items so she could feel them and they could be described to her.

Christmas Around The World

Today we are working on a little project using one of my downloads. I created this last year and forgot about it. You can download it here –> View on Store Elisha is working independently on this project and creating a computer report (yippee!). Moses and I worked at the computer together to find information for his report. Malachi and I will be working at the computer and his report will be narrated. This has been a simple, but wonderful project for the boys this Christmas.

Today’s Highlights

Zion was up all night throwing up. Malachi woke up throwing up. Hosanna had a doctor’s appointment first thing this morning. We had another appointment this morning and then Zion went to see the doctor. Today we discussed the differences between plants and animals (animals can move from place to place and plants can only move by growing – Elisha added – plants breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen and we breathe in oxygen and out carbon dioxide) We sorted pictures into plants and animals. The boys all did great at this activity. The boys all made charts …

This Week…

Well, this last week has slipped by so quickly… I will list the things we did. We had a guinea pig die this week so we had a discussion about death. We worked on Calendar Time. I purchased a large calendar and we taped the numbers to the days for September. It was easier for the kids to have something to interact with physically. We discussed the months of the year, the days of the week, the seasons, etc. We have discussed the weather and worked on our weather charts. We have worked on our printing books. We have worked …
