An Easy Menu Planner

I was on Pinterest for a brief moment today and found this menu planning idea. While I loved the concept, I do like to plan more than 4 meals per week and I wanted something a bit more colorful and fun.

So, I set about to create my own menu planner. The one below is a screen shot of the one that I made. Read the rest of the post because I have a surprise for you at the end. What's For Dinner

I love the idea that you can write your dinner meals across the top and then you write your grocery list for each meal underneath. Then you take the list/meal plan to the grocery store with you. When you are all finished grocery shopping, you can put the list up on your fridge. I love this idea.

So often I make a meal plan and a separate grocery list only to lose both of them before we actually make any of the meals that I have planned. It’s one piece of paper which saves me from double work. Did I mention that I love this idea?

The other benefit I see to this is that daddy knows what meals I have planned for the week, while he is shopping, and can add any appropriate extras or compensate accordingly as he shops.

Cabbage Roll Casserole

This is a simple replacement for all those cabbage roll casserole lovers. This time it will be made with breakfast sausage and bear paw hamburgers. I know that sounds really weird, but the plan is to fry those up with some onions and mild salsa. It will create a really yummy sauce to mix with the cabbage and the rice. We use parboiled rice so it doesn't need to be cooked ahead and turns out perfect every time. Okay, I am really looking forward to this meal. 

Beef And Broccoli with Rice

We didn't get to this one last week. I make this with roast that has been cooked, sliced, and frozen. We will cube this up, fry it with onions and broccoli. It will be served with rice. 

Sweet n Sour Pork with Rice

We cooked a pork roast last week that was sliced and frozen. This will be cubed and fried with onions and peppers. Then we make the sauce – brown sugar, ketchup, and vinegar – until it tastes right. So easy. This will be served with rice and veggies. 

Chicken Fingers and Ceasar Salad

This one is easy. Cut up romaine lettuce, add Ceasar dressing. Cook chicken fingers, place on top. You can dress this up with parmesan cheese and crutons if you like. 

Spring Chicken Pie

I love chicken pot pie, but I like to save the heavy meals for the colder days of fall and winter. We are going to try something a little different this week. Grilled chicken breast, onions, peppers, corn, carrots, potatoes (easy on the potatoes), chicken gravy, and a baking powder biscuit crust.

Menu Plan MondayThis is our first week back to our homeschool after two lazy (but busy) weeks off. I need to keep the meals simple so we can focus on our book work and get out in the yard and get the garden ready for planting.

I am only planning the main meals this week because we have leftovers in the freezer that need to be consumed. These are not in any particular order. I am feeling a wee bit non committal and want to be prepared for whatever surprises the week brings.

  • Pirogies, Bacon, and Peas
  • Spaghetti and Side Veggies
  • BBQ Chicken with Rice and Veggie Side Dish
  • Daddy’s Homemade Pizza
