Making Room For Fun

Our theme for this year is to have more fun WHILE we are learning new things. Here are just a few of the ways that I hope to accomplish that:

  • focus on their learning styles
  • follow their interests
  • find out what make each child tick
  • use manipulatives wherever possible
  • do more science experiments
  • get outside more and see God’s world
  • do hands on activities wherever and whenever possible
  • get messy and make art masterpieces
  • have music fill our days
  • get in the kitchen and make some yummy goodies
  • learn that hard work can also be fun
  • find learning experiences around every corner

iPad Apps For Speech Therapy

Tech Tuesday

Today is Tech Tuesday (I apologize for completely missing last week) and I thought I would talk about our iPad again.

Do you have an iPad or other mobile device? Do you use it with your children?

Yesterday I spoke about needing to help Malachi with his speech in order to help him learn to read. We have an iPad and I knew that there must be resources we could use for speech therapy on there.

Here are some of the Apps that we already have that could be used to help with speech therapy:

I also went on an Internet hunt for iPad Apps to research and investigate further. I found a couple of individual apps that were reviewed by Apps for Homeschooling (awesome site, by the way) and some other great apps.

Individual Apps:

Did you know that Starfall now has an app?  We have long been fans of Starfall, so I was very excited to see them moving into the app world.

I was excited to find a few great list of apps specific for Speech and Language that I want to explore.

Lists Of Speech Therapy Apps:

What apps do you use for helping your child with their speech?

Special Needs

Tech Tuesday

Welcome back to Tech Tuesday.

Today I wanted to share about one of the ways we use our iPad.

Jonah has been making these wonderful Lighthouse Memory Club animations for the kids and we have all been learning our memory verses. You will be hearing more about the Lighthouse Memory Club as time goes on, but today I just want to show you this PDF that we use.

We wanted a quick and easy way to review our memory verses every morning, so Jonah set to work and came up with a nice little PDF that we can use on our iPad.

I apologize for the fuzzy pictures – I had a 3 year old hanging off my arm while I was trying to take them.

50W

So Jonah is working on a series of memory verse animations (I said that already, right?). All of these characters are in the animation. It will be available on DVD sometime in the near future.

Beauty

Each family member is a character in the animations – doing voices. Jonah has more than one character that he does voices for (man, can he do voices!).

text bigger

This PDF that Jonah made is like a little book that you can turn the pages of – or make text bigger on.

fluorescent and lloyd

Jonah and I have worked on the colorful graphics together. There are cute graphics, but no moving parts for this PDF.

Tubular

Each of the kids associates their character with their memory verse. I wonder what is going to happen when we go to do the next set of verses?

Knight Light

They all love their characters, but practising lines over and over again is not always fun.

Flame

So are you ready to grab your own PDF of these memory verses? Memory Verse Book Volume 1 (don’t worry, it’s free!)
