In my life this week…

  • I have made some big decisions and I would love it if you read my post No Excuses if you haven’t already.

In our homeschool this week…

  • Moses and Elisha did some human body exploration including the skull, the parts of the body, and the hand with a kit that we purchased.
  • Elisha and I discussed what countries in the world have French as their official language. We also discussed the use of le and la in French. We looked at things around the house that have French on them like a baby lotion bottle and tried to dicpher the words. He was very observant in noticing that the translation was not exact. We also started discussing French cousine.
  • Malachi had a reading break through this week. I purchased some phonics materials to use over the summer and we were trying them out and something really clicked in his brain. I am pretty sure he will be reading more by the end of the summer.
  • We are wrapping up our school work.
  • We are preparing for portfolio meetings.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

  • We had our weekly visit with Jenn and her littles.
  • My aunt came to town for a blogging support weekend.

My favorite thing this week was…

What’s working/not working for us…

  • Our “space” is not working for us the way it is. We have been rethinking how each area of the house is set up and what would be the best use of that space.

Questions/thoughts I have…

  • I am curious how many of you actually finish every page in your school books each year?

Things I’m working on…

  • Well, I don’t know if you remember or not, but I said I was going to have giveaways between the twins birthday and my birthday. I am sorry that time just slipped away from me and I didn’t get all my work done to make that happen. I have at least 4 giveaways that I will be sharing with you this coming week. I hope you will accept my apologies and know that I wasn’t trying to pull a fast one over on you.

Books I’m reading…

  • I am attempting to read Ministry of Motherhood with the Good Morning GIrls, but I am not making much progress yet.
  • I have started reading 31 Days to Clean and need to continue to work through it.

This is a video of our 3 year old son, Zion, saying John 3:16 from memory, using the King James Version.

In my life this week…

We celebrated Victoria Day by watching the parade on television.

In our homeschool this week…

As a family we discussed our goals for next year (and the rest of this year).

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

My sister (and some of her kids) came over to work on a secret project we are working on (to be revealed soon). We had our weekly playdate and visit with Jenn and her kidlets.

My favorite thing this week was…

Brushing my daughter's hair and having her brush mine. She is finally old enough to brush my hair without getting the brush all tied up in a knot.

What’s working/not working for us

We need to rearrange our home again to create some new learning spaces. I can't wrap my head around making our spaces work for our needs. (Time to get creative again.)

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

I have been thinking about our homeschool quite a bit this month and I have decided that I want us to focus more on learning, having fun, exploring, creating, etc. than on checking things off of a to-do list.

moms basket

This is a crocheted basket that I made for my mama for Mother's Day. She loved it. I had fun making it.

Homeschool Mother’s Journal

It is time for another edition of the Homeschool Mother’s Journal over at The Homeschool Chick.

In my life this week…

I am still sick. First they said it was tonsillitis. Second they said it was strep. Third they said it was strep again. I am on my third round of antibiotics. This time they gave me a different prescription for a longer time.

In our homeschool this week…

We have been spending time in the kitchen baking all kinds of yummy treats and the kids are having a blast.  Now, if I can just get them to clean their rooms.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We have been hanging around the house trying to get me healthy again, but the weather is nice and I think we need to go for a walk soon.

My favorite thing this week was…

snuggling with the twins this week and baking with the big boys.

What’s working/not working for us…

The new workbox setup is working very well for us.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

Is there an art video series for kids? Moses loves Mister Maker and I would love to be able to find a video series like this television series for him to watch.

What are your favorite educational dvd’s?

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

I want to share a link to the Handbook of Nature Study. Now that the weather is nicer, I can’t wait to explore this inspiring site more fully.
