Baking Powder Biscuits

This recipe is egg free and dairy free.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup lard
  • 1 1/2 cup water

Directions

Set the oven at 350. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic together in a large bowl. Add in lard. Mix until nice and flaky. (I usually do this with my hands). Add in the water. Stir well with a spoon and then knead with your hands. Form into biscuits. Place on cookie. Cook for 15-20 minutes.

My Notes

This recipe, as is, makes 8 large biscuits.

Biscuits and Gravy: Double the recipe and serve with your favorite leftover gravy. Add garlic and your favorite spices to the recipe right after you add the salt.

Biscuits and Pepperoni Slices: Add garlic and spices to the recipe right after you add the salt. Cook the biscuits. Slice them, while hot, and place a slice of pepperoni inside. This would also work well with precooked sausage patties.

Biscuit Topping: This recipe can also be used on top of a potpie. Add garlic and your favorite spices to the recipe right after you add the salt.
