A sheep, a dinosaur, and a blue duck…

A sheep,

a dinosaur,

and a blue duck

were having a conference…

were chatting around the water cooler…

Okay, no, wait…

Here’s the real story…

A sheep, a dinosaur, and a blue duck were sitting on the bathroom counter…

and that is where I found them (honestly). I went into the bathroom in the middle of the night and found a sheep, a dinosaur, and a blue duck sitting in a huddle, having some sort of important discussion right there on the edge of the counter. I admit it startled me at first to see them there because I was not expecting them. Then I had this sentence rolling around in my head all night… a sheep, a dinosaur, and a blue duck…  and I couldn’t sleep.

I kept thinking that it would be a good “first line” for something… how about a blog post? It seemed perfect for this one because I had been wanting to share about the amazing book that my sister gave me for Christmas. The book is called Pen on Fire and it has truly been inspiring and encouraging to read. One of the chapters discusses how “first lines” can be found anywhere if you are looking for them. I am not even halfway through the book yet because I don’t have much time to read around here (you know how it goes with five kids – okay, maybe you don’t?), but I am really looking forward to the rest of the book.

If you are interested in writing and need a bit of inspiration… you might want to check out this book.

I am curious… what “first lines” have you discovered in your everyday life over the holidays?
