Time To Blog Again…

A Long Time Since I Posted…

Well, it has been almost a year since I have posted anything on this blog. It has been quite the year!

Twins…

We now have 2 new members of our family. Hosanna and Zion were born on May 20th, 2008. They were born at 35 weeks and spent a couple of days in the Special Care Nursery while I recovered from the c-section (Zion was sitting on his feet and threatening to come out feet first!). The babies are three months old now and doing great.

Our Garden…

The vegetable garden was a bust this year as being pregnant with twins didn’t really lend itself well to bending over and planting. Jonah and the boys planted some beans and tomatoes. We watched other things come up from the ground that we didn’t plant.

The flower garden this year (outside our front entry) was absolutely beautiful. Jonah put in a lot of effort planting seeds and plants. We had 8 foot high sunflowers that have now fallen over. We had many varieties of flowers that were very colorful and just gorgeous. I will see if I can find some photos to post later. It’s almost time to pull some of it up and figure out what will replace it for the fall. I am thinking of some nice perennials, but that will require some research and a trip to the garden centre.

Our Homeschool…

I really think that we are eclectic homeschoolers. We use a hodge podge collection of resources that work for us. I am just trying to put that collection into some order so that we can get some good solid work accomplished this year. I will be the first to admit that we slacked last year, due to the pregnancy and subsequent birth of the twins. We need to get more done this year. I haven’t had hardly a moment to find time to plan and the time is quickly slipping away from me.

Homeschool Tracker has helped in the past, but I like a paper trail. Donna Young has great printables for homeschool planning, but nothing has worked for me so far.

This year I need to plan better, execute those plans, and have a large amount of stuff to turn into our resource teacher. Need to think about this one a bit more. Any ideas?

This year we are using a variety of curricula that I am so excited about. Bible will include a nice curriculum from Homeschooling Bible and the pages from Calvary Curriculum. Winter Promise, Donna Ward, and a selection of unit studies about Canada will make up our social studies program for this year. All three subjects of level one from Noeo Science and some workbooks from Christian Liberty Press will make up our science program this year. Language arts and math will include a variety of workbooks and activities tailored to each child’s level. P.E. will be from Anne’s School Place. I am looking forward to planning many adventourous field trips. I have a mismash of other resources that will be thrown in for good measure to round of our school year. It is my desire to try some new things this year, but I will share on those in future posts.

Working From Home…

It is our desire to work from home and we are heading in that direction. We have many projects in the works that I will share with you as they are ready. I can let you in on a little secret though, they all involve homeschooling in some way shape or form.

See You Soon…

Well, I guess that is enough of an update for today. It is my goal to start writing here regularly to help keep myself on track with all of my projects and also to provide a place to record life as it happens.
