Here is the contents of the special needs order that I finally got around to placing for Elisha. Have a look and let me know what you think.
This is a special composition notebook that I hope will help Elisha with his printing. I have not decided yet which subject/s Elisha will use this for, but I will have a better idea once I see it.
Hi-Write Wide-Ruled Notebook Paper
This is special notebooking paper that I hope will help Elisha with his printing.
Elisha has never been able to use a ruler, so every line he draws is crooked free hand. I hope this ruler will help to tidy up his work as well as make things easier for him.
Our fabulous OT recommended this watch to help Elisha manage himself. Jonah will be in charge of reading the instruction manual and programming the watch, but I am sure he will be able to figure it out.
Abilitations ChewEase Invisible Pencil Topper
Elisha has this constant need to chew and most of our pencils no longer have erasers on them. We have used these in the past (or something similar) and it was time to order them again.
School Specialty CanDo No-Latex Medium Resistance Band
I am hoping the OT can help us create some exercises for Elisha with the bands.
CanDo No-Latex Tubing – Medium
I am hoping the OT can help us create some exercises for Elisha with the tubing.
Rae Pica’s Teachable Transitions
Elisha has always struggled with transitions. He has gotten considerably more tolerable over the years, but I thought I would check and see if there were any great ideas in this book that I could use to help things go even smoother.
Transition Tips and Tricks Author: Jean Feldman
Here is another great book about transitions and I am hoping there will be some ideas to help me help Elisha.
Pacon MathNotes 3-Hole Punched Grid Paper with 1/2 inch Ruled Grid
Elisha has trouble visualizing math problems on plain or lined paper. This is special paper that will hopefully help him to work out his math problems with less stress.
Sportime Sqwhistle Squeezable Whistle
When going on walks it is hard to be heard over traffic even with a loud “daddy yell” so we are trying out the squeezable whistle to see if it will work for us.
Shortly before Elisha’s diagnoses of Autism (Aspergers) he was diagnosed with ADHD. His hyperactivity is still an ongoing issue and I thought it would be good to have a resource that might give me some ideas in how to manage that extra energy.
SticKids Therapist Software and Activity Kit
This software will give us the ability to make sensory diets and other fun stuff to work into our day. I am really looking forward to trying this program out.
Teacher Reward Kits – School Theme This year I am creating a prize box. Elisha works really well for rewards. If the rewards are immediate that is even better. I am starting with this prize box and I will be adding stickers, bookmarks, pencils, sensory toys, fidgets, gum, and maybe even some candy.
Mini charts to use for earning bigger prizes from the prize box.
Stinky Stickers Mixed Shaped Jumbo Variety Pack
More stickers for the prize box.
Fun & Fancy Value Pack of Stinky Stickers
More stickers for the prize box.
This fun project kit will help Elisha with his fine motor skills while learning to work in a step by step process and practicing pacing himself.
Arnold Grummer Pour Handmold for Paper Making Elisha does not like to get dirty, so making paper will help him do something interesting and fun, while stretching his ability to tolerate difficult situations. This activity will also help him work with a step by step process and practice pacing himself.
I was going to order theraputty for Elisha, but the multi-pack that I wanted was not available. This clay will allow Elisha to create a claymation project while working on his fine motor skills and strengthening his fingers.
Extra clay to go with the set above.
This is an excellent visual schedule support for Elisha. I can’t wait to see how he responds to this.
K’Nex Education Discovery Building Set
Elisha specifically asked for more building sets to do with the OT.
K’NEX Simple Machines Sets – Intro to Bridges
Elisha specifically asked for more building sets to do with the OT.
School Smart Dry-Erase Pupil Boards
When Elisha works with the OT, they map out their time on a dry erase board. She has suggested in the past that we do this and I am finally getting the supplies.
These dry erase pockets have such great potential and cause the creative ideas to flow. My immediate thought is to use these for a checklist for chores or his bedtime routine. It would be written on paper and he would just use a dry erase to check things off. This would also eliminate the need for a laminator right now.
EXPO Low Odor Dry Erase Pen-Style Markers
Well, obviously we need these with all the dry erase materials that we are purchasing this year.
Expo Soft Pile Dry Erase Board Eraser
Well, obviously we need this too.
Large Dry Erase Die – Red – Grades K-6
My brain was thinking about all the creative ways we could use an erasable dice to make things more interesting. It could be used to help with chores, learning parts of speech, writing a story, or more.
School Specialty Move Cubes Pack with Activity Guide – Set Of 3
This set will be used in a similar fashion to the dry erase die above.
Learning Resources 12-Inch Inflatable Globe
One of Elisha’s favorite things to share is facts about Geography and History. I am hoping to come up with a creative way to use this globe as a reward or motivator for him to do other subjects.
